Do you ever take a moment to think about what it takes to get your paycheck to you accurately and on time? There's a team of people working behind the scenes every day to make sure you are paid, and your deductions are correct. This National Payroll Appreciation Week, we're spotlighting some of RBS' Payroll associates and sharing their stories both professionally and personally.

Andre Ferguson, Director of Payroll
Andre Ferguson is the new Director of Payroll, overseeing this key function, supporting all Ahold Delhaize USA companies. Andre stepped into his role last month with an impressive resume: leading the Global Payroll team at Wayfair, overseeing the employment tax function and executive leadership payroll at CVS, and guiding clients through complex payroll and employment tax issues while consulting at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

When he's not crunching numbers and leading his team of 50, Andre and his wife are cheering on their kids in swim, especially their oldest daughter, Zuri, who's a competitive swimmer. Last year, at just 15 years old, she went to the U.S. Olympic Swim trials in Omaha, Neb. Before swimming became such a big part of their life, Andre enjoyed playing soccer and field hockey. He's also a longtime fan of the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, New York Jets, New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets and New York Mets.

As future payroll professionals enter the field, Andre offers these words of advice: "Be open, honest and transparent. We all make mistakes. Payroll accuracy is only achieved based on accurate information flowing into the system. Payroll operates in an environment where the slightest mistake can have a profound impact on our employees—do not suffer in silence. If something goes wrong, vocalize it as soon as possible so that we, as a team, can take the appropriate corrective action to make the employees whole."

Terri Honeycutt, RBS Payroll Systems Manager
With more than three decades in her career ledger, RBS Payroll Systems Manager Terri Honeycutt has seen plenty of change in the industry. She was even present when one of Ahold Delhaize USA's brands transitioned from paper timecards and rolled out its first in-store computers.

Though Terri has excelled as a leader in the Payroll team, she actually began her career in Food Lion's IT room after graduating college with a degree in Information Systems. From there Terri transitioned into a new role as a Payroll clerk. Through her hard work and leadership, she was promoted to team lead, then a supervisor and ultimately the Director of Payroll. Now Terri is maneuvering through another big change: She's transitioning out of her role as Payroll Director into a new position as Payroll Systems and Technology Manager.

As she navigates changes in her professional life, three things remain constant in her personal life: her love for fishing, the beach and baseball.

Carolyn Ameno, Finance Manager
Finance Manager Carolyn Ameno graduated college with a degree in Accounting and Finance, but she didn't exactly choose a career in payroll. Instead, she says it was chosen for her. "While in college I worked in the IT department for a large supermarket chain. After graduating, the vice president of the department went to the vice president of Finance and told them I'd just gotten my degree and needed a full-time job," Carolyn said. "Since I'm good with math and computers, the VP of finance decided to put me in Payroll as the liaison between Payroll and IT."

Fast forward to today, Carolyn manages the day-to-day operations of the Cyborg Brands and the BLADE testing for the new payroll system.

When she's not busy bringing smiles to associates, Carolyn spreads joy to her family through baking, traveling and spending quality time with her two beautiful granddaughters. Carolyn says she also finds enjoyment in mentoring. Her advice to anyone considering a career in payroll: Find a mentor who is willing to work with you, guide you and tirelessly answer your questions and share knowledge.
