RBS Associates Share Their #GroceryProud Stories on National Supermarket Employee Day
Today is Supermarket Employee Day and to celebrate, Retail Business Services employees are sharing their #GroceryProud stories on the Retail Business Services LinkedIn page. From early career memories to heartwarming store experiences, there was no shortage of gratitude for the local brands we serve: Food Lion, the GIANT Company, Giant Food, Hannaford and Stop & Shop.
Here’s a sampling of their testimonials:
Furthering My Education: Sara St Clair, Director, IT Solutions Development – Supply Chain
"I started in grocery retail in Juneau, Alaska, as a front-end cashier, where I learned the importance of serving our communities. When I moved back home to Maine, I wanted to stay in grocery, so I got a job at Hannaford in Scarborough in the deli department. As an associate, I was offered tuition reimbursement that allowed me to gain my bachelor’s degree in business administration, a move that has led to many career advancements throughout my 24 years. To this day, I feel proud of my team’s work and how it feeds our communities and keeps our local brands strong."
Cashier to Career: Julie Peters, Recruiting Manager
"I started at Food Lion as a part-time cashier in 1987 when I was 16. It wasn’t my plan to work there long-term but my love for the company grew and so did my love for the customers and the work that came with it. I am always proud of where I started my career, especially the skills I gained in customer service and the ability to demonstrate patience and care."
From Panic to Gratitude: Evelyn Riley, Claims Specialist
"Several years ago, I dropped a large sum of money in the parking lot at the Winchester, Mass., Stop & Shop. After realizing it was missing, I called the store in a panic. It turns out the cart associate had found the money, picked it up and given it to the store manager, who kept it safe. I am so grateful to that wonderful associate!"
