service blog1Service blog3Service Blog2Retail Business Services’ dedication to improving the lives of its neighbors brought more than 300 associates together on Tuesday, Oct. 22 for the second annual RBS Cares Day of Service. Retail Business Services is the services company of Ahold Delhaize USA.

From Scarborough, Maine, all the way down to Greenville, South Carolina, associates joined local food pantries to restock pantry shelves, load shopping carts and pack boxes full of goods in a true show of Retail Business Services’ teamwork. Together, associates helped assemble more than 100,000 meals and donated more than 1,200 service hours to support hunger relief.

Associates in Scarborough, banded together to inspect, sort and pack food items at the Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine. In total, the group of more than 40 helped provide more than 50,400 meals to food insecure residents of southern Maine.

In Carlisle, Pennsylvania, approximately 40 associates helped load and fill 20 pallets with breakfast, lunch and dinner meal boxes for the elderly community in counties across Pennsylvania.

“Each box we packaged provides a senior in the community with three meals a day for more than two weeks,” said Learning Specialist John Daly, who volunteered at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. “That was an inspiring sentiment and put into perspective how much our contributions will make an impact across the state.”

More than 100 associates turned out to volunteer at Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina in Charlotte, N.C. Together, the group processed more than 25,000 meals – roughly enough food to feed 15,000 families for a week.

“It was a great opportunity to learn more about what the food bank does, especially in terms of the number of food pantries, homeless shelters and other organizations they support,” said Nancy Nicoll, VP, Not For Resale, who volunteered in Charlotte. “It was also an awesome opportunity to work as a team to support the food bank and their mission.”

In Quincy, nearly 90 volunteers rolled up their sleeves at the Greater Boston Food Bank and sorted through 26,600 pounds of food, which equals roughly 22,000 meals.

“It is great to see the team come together for a good cause,” said Ken Bolick, Director of Innovation as he sorted food in Boston. “Having the opportunity to give back is at the heart of what our business cares about – especially when it focuses on one of our core tenants, which is preventing hunger.”

“It feels great to step out of the office to do this, and it is awesome that we are doing something like this across the campuses,” said Aakanksha Mundpi, HR Business Partner, who volunteered in Boston. “Retail Business Services as an organization really cares for its local communities.”
